Find the right Medicare plan

Medicare

You’ve worked hard to earn Medicare, now find a Medicare plan that works hard for you!

We understand how confusing it can be to find the Medicare plan that best fits your needs, but it doesn’t have to be. We work with trusted partners to help connect you with a plan that fits your lifestyle and your budget.

Medicare basics

  • Parts A and B—This is Original Medicare provided by the government. Original Medicare covers hospital care and medical coverage. Medigap plans are available to supplement Original Medicare.
  • Part D—prescription drug coverage offered by private insurers. It helps cover the cost of prescription drugs.

What do Medicare plans cover?

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Medigap plans help fill the coverage gaps left by Original Medicare. They can help lower the out-of-pocket costs of Part A and Part B Medicare and give you more comprehensive coverage. There are ten types of Medigap plan—labeled A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N—each offering different coverage. The plans are standardized, meaning a type C plan from one insurer will offer the same coverage as a type C plan from another insurer. Our Health Insurance Specialists can help talk you through your plan options to find the plan type that best fits your needs.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage plans provide coverage equal to Part A and Part B of Original Medicare, however, your hospice care will stay covered through Original Medicare Part A even you if you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan. In addition to providing the same coverage as Original Medicare, a Medicare Advantage plan may provide additional benefits such as dental and vision care. Most Medicare Advantage Plans also provide coverage for prescription drugs (Medicare Part D). If you choose a Medicare Advantage plan with Prescription Drug coverage you will not need to buy an additional Part D plan.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, also known as Part D plans, provide coverage for your prescription drug needs. These plans work with Original Medicare and help ensure your prescription drugs remain affordable. Part D coverage is available as a stand alone plan or may be included as part of other Medicare plans. If you choose to stick with an Original Medicare plan that does not include Part D coverage then choosing a suitable Part D plan is essential for comprehensive coverage.

Enrolling in a Medicare Plan

The Medicare Annual Election Period

The Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) runs October 15th – December 7th every year. This is your opportunity to make changes to your Medicare coverage.  If you’re enrolled in either Part A or Part B of Original Medicare you’ll be able to add or change Part D coverage. If you’re enrolled in both Part A and Part B.

Original Medicare, and Medicare Part D.

Your first chance to enroll in a plan will be around your 65th birthday or when you’ve been on SSDI for 24 months.  Your initial enrollment period will last for 7 months and starts 3 months before your birth month, includes the month of your birthday and continues for 3 months following. If you qualify due to your disability status your seven-month enrollment period starts 3 months before the 24th month of receiving SSDI payments.

Medicare Supplement Plans

The enrollment period for a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans begins the month of your 65th birthday and lasts for 6 months. During this time you are guaranteed to be accepted for the plan of your choice. After this time you may be denied Medigap coverage or charged higher monthly premiums.
