The Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Annual Election Period
The Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) runs October 15th – December 7th every year. This is your opportunity to make changes to your Medicare coverage. If you’re enrolled in either Part A or Part B of Original Medicare you’ll be able to add or change Part D coverage. If you’re enrolled in both Part A and Part B.

Your first chance to enroll in a plan will be around your 65th birthday or when you’ve been on SSDI for 24 months. Your initial enrollment period will last for 7 months and starts 3 months before your birth month, includes the month of your birthday and continues for 3 months following. If you qualify due to your disability status your seven-month enrollment period starts 3 months before the 24th month of receiving SSDI payments.
Medicare Supplement Plans
The enrollment period for a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans begins the month of your 65th birthday and lasts for 6 months. During this time you are guaranteed to be accepted for the plan of your choice. After this time you may be denied Medigap coverage or charged higher monthly premiums.
